Surrey County Council election, 1973, Guildford
In April 1973 elections were held for County Councils in England, including Surrey County Council.
Nine of the electoral divisions in Surrey, in the 1973 County Council elections, were within the Guildford Borough Council area. The five rural Guildford wards all returned Conservative candidates. By contrast, the town of Guildford itself was split - two Labour, one Conservative, one Liberal.
The Conservatives contested all nine electoral divisions, Labour contested six and the Liberals three. One electoral division, Ash, was contested by an independent candidate. Two of the rural electoral divisions; Shalford and Horselys, returned members unopposed.
Two seats changed hands in the 1973 election. Labour gained Guildford North from the Conservatives. The Liberals gained Guildford South from the Conservatives.
