Suryakumar Pandey (born 1 January 1956) is a Hindi poet, humorist, satirist and writer from Lucknow, India. In a literary career spanning over many decades, Suryakumar Pandey has been contributing to various genres of Hindi literature like Hasya Kavita (humorous comic poetry), Vyangya (satire) and Bal Kavita (children rhymes) etc.[1][2][3] He is most recognized as a Hasya kavi and for his distinctive style and language of hasya kavita [4] Popularly known as Pandeyji, he is also well known for his Hāsya kavita (humorous hindi poetry) recitations at Hindi kavi sammelans both in India and globally.[5][6][7][8]
Early and personal life
Suryakumar Pandey was born in Ballia in Eastern Uttar Pradesh. After initial years of primary schooling in Ballia Pandey moved to Lucknow where he studid at Lucknow University and completed his post-graduation in Mathematical Statistics. He worked in Lucknow as an officer for the government of Uttar Pradesh till 2015.
Literary career
Since a young age Suryakumar Pandey has been an active Hindi poet and writer. He has written in several genres of Hindi literature like Hasya Kavita (humorous comic poetry), Vyangya (satire articles), Geet (songs) and Bal Kavita (children rhymes). Hasya kavita has been his forte. In present times when the Hindi Hasya kavi sammelans have been marred with tasteless crass humor and canned jokes, Pandey is recognized as a poet of literary class.[9] [10]
Hasya Kavita Pandey is among the most recognized Hindi Hasya Kavis. He is known for his distinctive style of Hasya kavita (Hindi comic poetry). Suryakumar Pandey has popularised a new language in current day Hindi hasya kavita by using English words intertwined with Hindi as used by the youngsters. His funny couplets are particularly famous among the younger audience. [11]
Kavi Sammelans Suryakumar Pandey has performed at more than 4,000 shows and kavi sammelans in his literary career spanning more than four decades. In present times when the Hindi Hasya kavi sammelans have been marred with tasteless crass humor and canned jokes, Pandey is recognized as a poet of literary class.[12] [13][14][15]
Television and Radio He has been actively associated with radio and television. Suryakumar Pandey has long been a poet of choice for Doordashan and Akashvani (All India Radio) for scripting shows, writing songs, solo poetry recitations and kavi sammelans. He has recited his poetry for several national television channels including Doordarshan, DD Bharti, ABP News, Aaj Tak, News Nation, ETV Network, SAB TV, Sony Pal , Zee News, Sahara Samay, APN News etc.[16] In recent years, he has made multiple appearances in Wah! Wah! Kya Baat Hai! on SAB TV.[17][18]
Vyangya (Hindi Satire) Suryakumar Pandey has penned down hundreds of vyangya (Hindi satire) articles and still writes regularly for several national Hindi newspapers.[19][20][21][22]
Bal Kavita (Hindi Children Rhymes) Suryakumar Pandey is one of the biggest name in bal kavita in present time. His poems are included in many school books in India.[23]
