Suzie Miller is an Australian-born playwright. She is based in London.

Biography

Miller is a graduate of the Playwrights Studio at the Australian National Institute of Dramatic Arts (2000), has a Masters degree in Theatre & Film, and a Masters degree in Law.[2] Miller resides in London

Miller's published work includes:

The National Theatre in London developed her work Transparency while on attachment there in March/April 2009.[4] She was also on attachment in 2009 with Ransom Theatre, Northern Ireland. Transparency, written under the Kit Denton Fellowship, premiered with Ransom (new writing) Theatre in Belfast in 2009, and toured Northern Ireland. It was nominated by the Irish Times as 'best of' 2009.

In 2008 her play Reasonable Doubt was produced at both the 2008 Edinburgh Fringe Festival[5] and the 2008 NY Fringe Festival (winning the NY Festival's Excellence Playwriting Award).[6] Confused Sea Conditions was produced as one of 8 plays selected internationally in Philadelphia, USA, in April 2009.[7] Her Play Flight/Fright Mode was produced at the 2009 Edinburgh Festival as one of 8 Australian plays.

Her 2012 play Driving into Walls was first performed at the 2012 Perth International Arts Festival.[8]

Miller's play Dust premiered at the Heath Ledger Theatre in Perth in June 2014, and was performed by the Black Swan State Theatre Company.[9]

Awards and honours

Miller received the 2008 National Kit Denton Fellowship for writing.[10] She was shortlisted for the 2010 Australian Writers Guild Award for drama, and was shortlisted for the Griffin Award 2009. She won the 2006 and the 2009 Inscription award.

Miller was mentored by Edward Albee in 2009.[11] She received the 2008 New York Fringe Festival 'Overall Excellence Award for Outstanding Playwriting'. She received the 2005 Theatrelab award. She was shortlisted for Premiers' awards and AWGIES (Writers Guild awards).

Miller has sat on the board of Playworks, Playwriting Australia, TRS, and State of Play. She has been a judge for the Australian Writers Guild for film scripts, plays and the Kit Denton, and has sat on the Australia Council of the Arts Literature Board as a theatre peer. She is also on the reader panel for various theatre companies in Australia and London.
