Svoboda (surname)
Svoboda is a common surname. Svobodová is a Czech feminine form of the surname.
Etymology
In the Czech language it used to refer to "free men" (to distinguish them from "serfs").[1] In the old Czech orthography the word was written as Swoboda and this spelling is still preserved in the names within the language environment where the letter "w" is common (unlike today's Czech) such as Poland or German countries. Slovak, Croatian and Serbian version is written as "Sloboda".
