Swakula Sali

'Swakula Sali (also known as Swakulasali, Swakulasale and Sali) is an ethnic community[1] found among Hindus in India. They claim descent from the mythological Jihveshwara. Marathi is the primary language spoken by the Swakulasalis other than local languages. The primary professions of the Swakula Salis are weaving, designing and Dyeing. It was Swakula Salis who first created famous Narayanpet silk and cotton sarees. They are considered to be a tribe among the Brahamins and had authority over Rigveda but eventually lost prominence in the society.
