Swedish flower hen
The Swedish Flower Hen (Swedish: blommehöns) is a rare landrace chicken breed originating in Sweden.
History
The Swedish Flower Hen breed was close to extinction in 1970, when a group of enthusiasts discovered 3 remaining flocks in Sweden.[1] A breeding program was established to help grow the population.
In 2010 the breed was introduced to America.
Description
The name is inspired by the mottling of the feather tips, resembling a field of blooming flowers.
The base coloring varies from black, yellow, red or blue. All of these variations contain the mottling pattern that distinguish the breed.
