Mausoleum Syedna Idris

Syedna Idris Imadudin Bin Syedna Hasan [1] (died 19 Zilqad 872 AH 1467 AD), Shibaam, Yemen) was the nineteenth Da'i al-Mutlaq (Absolute Missionary) of the Taiyabi Musta‘lī Bohra Islam and the 13th from the descendants of Banil Waleed. He succeeded the 18th Dai Sayedna Ali Shamsuddin to the religious post. Syedna Idris became Da'i al-Mutlaq in 832 AH,[2] 1429 AD.

Syedna Idris’ distinctions have been categorized in three ways; 1. In jihad 2. In knowledge 3. In the preparation for the transfer of the D`awat to India.

During his tenure as Da'i, Syedna Idris[3] appointed Moulai Adam as his associate and Wali-ul-Hind (6th) of India.

The "Uyun al-akhbar"[4] is the most complete text written by Syedna Idris bin Hasan on the history of the Ismaili community from its origins up to the 12th century CE period of the Fatimid caliphs al-Mustansir (d. 487/1094), the time of Musta‘lian rulers including al-Musta‘li (d. 495/1101) and al-Amir (d. 524/1130), and then the Tayyibi Ismaili community in Yemen. His other two famous books are Nuzhatul Afqar and Zohral Maani. During his era there was epidemic of cholera in Yemen. His recital of a “Dua Dafeel Afaat” famous amongst Dawoodi Bohra reduced the effect.

There is an incident famous of Indian Dawoodi Bohra Fatimid of their ‘walayat’. There was a ‘Farman’ (order) from 19th Dai Syedna Idris to Wali-ul-Hind (6th) Moulai Adam that he had to follow a person named by "Sakka" (a very pious person but a ‘Bhisti’ (water carrier) by profession, who had accepted Fatemid Dawat but was new to its tradition). Everyone was surprised but they did not have any doubt in their mind and prepared "Sakka" to perform namaz/prayer, and Moulai Adam along with his associate performed namaz under "Sakka" (Actually there was a second ‘farman’/order to be open after 3 days of the first, cancelling the first one and appointing back Molai Adam as Wali).

Syedna Idris conferred succession upon Syedna Hasan Badruddin and died, his mausoleum was built by Syedna Ali bin Syedna Husain.

In the time of Syedna Mohammed Ezzuddin, Sharafuddin Zaidi demolished the grave and turned the mausoleum into a storage room.

The mausoleum of Syedna Idris was reconstructed with white marble by 52nd Dai Syedna Mohammad Burhanuddin, and inaugurated by Dai himself on 23 September 2010. A large gathering of Dawoodi Bohra from all over the world witnessed the occasion.
