TESCAN, a.s. is a Czech Republic company founded in 1991 by several R&D and service engineers from a former and now non-existing company, Tesla Brno. Its headquarters is located in Brno, Czech Republic, moreover Brno is considered as traditional city where electron microscopy was and now still is located.

TESCAN's line of products is mainly focused on scanning electron microscopes from a wide range of thermal emission systems, LaB6 systems, and field emission systems to dual beam systems.

History

The history of TESCAN is closely connected with the company Tesla Brno and Czech Academy of Science – department Institute of Scientific Instruments Brno – ISI Brno in brief. With cooperation of ISI Brno Tesla Brno was developing and manufacturing electron microscopes in communist era of Czechoslovakia. The first very successful model was microscope Tesla BS 242, which won the Gold Medal at EXPO 1958. Over 3000 of various models were produced over a period of 30 years and exported to 20 countries. The Tesla split into many small companies after the Velvet Revolution. Many of those companies still had their business in the electron microscopy field. One of these company was TESCAN, which was established by six R&D and service engineers from the Tesla. The name TESCAN is derived from the words TEsla and SCANning – TESCAN.

Locations

TESCAN maintains their research and development center in Brno, Czech Republic. It has got sales and service subsidiaries in China, United States and the UK. It has worldwide sales and service distributors in more than 50 countries around the world.
