Table Cape Conservation Area

Table Cape Conservation Area is in the Waratah-Wynyard municipality in North West Tasmania about 2 km. north of the coastal township of Wynyard, Tasmania. Geologically speaking it is a large volcanic plug. Most of the area is used for farming and rural residential use. On the north side there is a very steep embankment that falls sharply down to the waters of Bass Strait.

The Table Cape Conservation Area is situated on this 170 metre (550') decline. There appears to be little protection of this area from residential and industrial activity. In 1989 it was reported that

"An unnamed species of Beddomeia with a distinctive shell morphology from "Table Cape" collected prior to 1900 was not located in a search of virtually all the streams in this heavily impacted area in 1989".
