Tamannaah filmography
Tamannaah is an Indian actress who has predominantly appeared in Telugu and Tamil cinema apart from a few Hindi films. She made her acting debut in 2005 at the age of 13 with Chand Sa Roshan Chehra in Hindi and Sri in Telugu. She also made her Tamil debut in the following year with Kedi; although neither of them were profitable ventures.[1] In 2007, Tamannaah received her breakthrough in Telugu and Tamil cinema with Happy Days and Kalloori;[2] in which both featured her as a college student.[3] Tamannaah had five roles in 2009, including Padikkadavan, Ayan, and Ananda Thandavam. Her performance in Konchem Ishtam Konchem Kashtam (2009) earned her a nomination in the Best Actress – Telugu category at the 57th Filmfare Awards South ceremony.[4] She also reprised Kareena Kapoor's role from Jab We Met (2007), in its Tamil remake Kanden Kadhalai (2009),[5] for which she earned another nomination at the 57th Filmfare Awards South in the Best Actress – Tamil category.[6] By then, she became one of the most sought-after actresses in Tamil cinema.[7][8]
Tamannaah played the leading lady in three Tamil films in 2010—Paiyaa, Sura, and Thillalangadi. While Paiyaa was profitable and earned her a nomination in the Best Actress – Tamil category at the 58th Filmfare Awards South ceremony,[9][10] the other two underperformed at the box office.[11] She had five roles in 2011 including 100% Love, which marked her return to Telugu films,[12] and Siruthai, a remake of S. S. Rajamouli's Telugu film Vikramarkudu (2006).[13] Her performance in the former gained a nomination in the Best Actress – Telugu category at the 59th Filmfare Awards South ceremony.[14] In the following year, Tamannaah played the female lead in four Telugu films —Racha, Endukante... Premanta!, Rebel, and Cameraman Gangatho Rambabu. Racha and Cameraman Gangatho Rambabu were commercially successful,[15][16] and her performance in the former gained her a nomination in the Best Actress – Telugu category at the 60th Filmfare Awards South ceremony.[17]
In 2013, Tamannaah made her comeback to Hindi films with Himmatwala, a remake of the 1983 Hindi film of the same name. She reprised the role played by Sridevi in the original.[18] Himmatwala received negative reviews from critics, and Tamannaah's performance in the film was criticised.[19] She appeared in four films in the following year—Veeram, Humshakals, Aagadu, and Entertainment. While Veeram was a profitable venture,[20] Entertainment was a moderate success,[21] the remaining underperformed at the box office.[22][23] Tamannaah played Avanthika, a warrior princess from an unspecified era in S. S. Rajamouli's Baahubali: The Beginning (2015), the first of the two cinematic parts of the bilingual epic film Baahubali.[24] It became one of the highest grossing Indian films of all time by grossing more than ₹6 billion.[25] Her last release of the year was Bengal Tiger, in which she played Meera, the daughter of a chief minister.[26] In her next release, she played Keerthi, the secretary of a rich quadriplegic businessman in Oopiri (2016), an official adaptation of Olivier Nakache & Éric Toledano's French dramedy film The Intouchables (2011).[27] Both were successful at the box office.[28][29]
