Tamara Bernier Evans (born Tamara Michele Bernier) is a Canadian actress, director, singer, writer and producer.
She obtained a BFA in acting at York University in Toronto, Canada. Shortly after graduation, she earned a coveted spot in The Stratford Shakespeare Festival's Young Company where she spent four years playing such roles as Celia and Audrey in As You Like It,[1] Sylvia in The Two Gentlemen of Verona,[2] and Dunyasha in The Cherry Orchard.[3]
In Toronto, she worked with the Necessary Angel,[4] Canadian Stage Company, Tarragon Theatre and Nightwood Theatre[5] companies developing and premiering new plays including Seven Lears by Howard Barker,[6] It's All True by Jason Sherman,[7] Outrageous! by Brad Fraser[8] and Anything That Moves by Ann-Marie MacDonald.[9] In Ottawa, she performed at The National Arts Centre in the world premiere of Allen Cole's jazz opera The Wrong Son.[10]
In 2000 she won the role of Tanya[11] in the Toronto stage production of Mamma Mia!.[12] After performing the role for two years at The Royal Alexandra Theatre, she was asked to join the Broadway company[13] at The Winter Garden Theatre in New York City.[14] She also performed the same role at Mandalay Bay in Las Vegas.
She played the role of Rose Narracott in Mirvish's 2012 Toronto Production of War Horse.[15]
Her television credits include Republic of Doyle (CBC),[16] Flashpoint (CTV),[17] The Border (CBC),[18] Kung Fu The Legend Continues (Warner Bros)[19] as well as many recurring roles on animated series including Mystique on Wolverine and the X-Men,[20] Helen Spitz on Braceface[21] and Lady Illusion on Ace Lightning.[22]
She has worked on the feature films The Break-Up, The Invasion, Catch and Release and St. Roz,[23] among others.
As a playwright, her musical Beholden was produced at Theatre Calgary's Fuse series in 2009.[24]
She also produced her first album of original music entitled Brand New Remedy in 2000.[25]
Tamara will be the Assistant Artistic Director at Tarragon Theatre in Toronto from August, 2015.
Personal life
She was raised in North Bay, Ontario, Canada by actress Joanne Scott and physicist Raymond Bernier. Her sister, Trista Bernier Grant, is a professional athlete who won a bronze medal for pole-vaulting at The Commonwealth Games in 1998.
In 2003, Tamara married composer and pianist Richard Evans in Toronto, Canada. On October 27, 2005, Tamara gave birth to a daughter, Meredith Raine Evans. Their son, Owain Macaulay Evans, was born on January 7, 2011.
