Tanay

This article is about the Sanskrit word. For the Philippine municipality, see Tanay, Rizal.

Tanay is a Sanskrit word, or can be said to be originated from Sanskrit. The meaning of the word Tanay is "son". It is used as a given name in India and other Hindu societies elsewhere.

An example of its usage can be found in the Hanuman Chalisa verse:

pavan tanay sankata harana mangala mūrati rūpa

This translates to:

Son of Vāyu, remover of adversities, one with an auspicious form

This is because Hanuman is considered to be the son of Vayu, the Hindu deity for the wind.
