Tanmay Bhat is an Indian stand-up comedian, script writer, producer and also the co-founder of comedy sketch group All India Bakchod.[1] He was one of the first four comedians to be featured at the Comedy Store Mumbai’s first all-Indian comedian line up, titled Local Heroes, and soon thereafter he performed alongside comics from the UK in a Best In Stand Up event.[1] He attended Sheth Chunnilal Damodardas Barfiwala High School. Tanmay was named a “Top 10 Comic” by the Times of India. Tanmay is also the co-founder of India's first comedy podcast All India Bakchod with Gursimran Khamba.[2]

Biography

Bhat received his high school education from S.C.D. Barfiwala High School. He's been playing the circuit since 2009. After doing the open mic circuit, Tanmay went professional. He joined Weirdass Comedy and became Vir Das' opening act on high sellout Walking On Broken Das. He was 1 of the first 4 comedians to be featured at The Comedy Store Mumbai's first all Indian comedian line up titled "Local Heroes". Soon, Tanmay performed alongside comics from the UK in their "Best In Stand Up" nights, performing 5 times a week. Tanmay is also a member of the awesome Weirdass Comedy – India's first and only comedy company that writes, performs and directs all comedy content on all formats. He is a member of the Cardinal Bengans, an improv comedy troupe. He also works with Weirdass Comedy and scripts films and television content. Tanmay was seen alongside Vir Das, Ashwin Mushran and others on Star World's first-ever Indian New Year's Special RIPping the Decade, which he also co-wrote. Last year, Tanmay as a part of Weirdass Comedy performed at The Fringe Festival in Scotland.. He has also featured in a couple of Bollywood movies in minor roles or cameo appearances like Ragini MMS 2 and Mr. X.

Controversy

Tanmay recently was involved in a controversy regarding a comedy roast show hosted by his group which received diverse critical reception.[3][4][5][6] On 2 February 2015, Akhilesh Tiwari, president of Brahman Ekta Sanstha, filed FIR in Mumbai on Tanmay along with Ranveer Singh, Karan Johar, Arjun Kapoor and other panel members for using excessive vulgarity and profanity.[7] [8]
