Tapen Sen (born 2 September 1953) was a judge of the Calcutta High Court and of the Punjab & Haryana High Court and of the Jharkhand High Court.

Early life and education

Tapen Sen (Born 2 September 1953) was judge of the High Courts of West Bengal, Punjab & Haryana and Jharkhand. He passed his Indian School Examination then conducted by the University of Cambridge Local examination Syndicate, U.K. from St.Xavier's School, Hazaribag secured first Division in the year 1970. Did graduation from St.Columba's College, Hazaribag in year 1974. Passed his LL.B. Examination from Chotanagpur Law College Ranchi in the year 1979.

Career

He joined Ranchi Bench of Patna High Court in 1980 and had handled a plethora of cases from diverse branches of law such as writs, criminal law, civil law, arbitration, matrimonial disputes, labour cases. He was appointed a counsel for the State Government of Bihar as Government Pleader for the erstwhile Ranchi Bench of the Patna High Court on 25 July 1997 which he declined citing personal reasons. He was also retained counsel for various state owned enterprises namely Fertilizer Corporation of India,Projects and Development India Limited, Bihar State Tourism Development Corporation, Bihar State Mineral Development Corporation (now Jharkhand State Mineral Development Corporation, Ranchi Regional Development Authority, Engineering Projects India Limited, Tata Iron and Steel Company Limited, Damodar Valley Corporation, Bihar State Electricity Board, Jharkhand State Electricity Board, All Bihar Christian Schools Association. He was elevated as a Permanent Judge of the Jharkhand High Court by His Excellency the President of India Shri K. R. Narayanan on January 28, 2002.
