Kharazmi University (Persian: دانشگاه خوارزمی, formerly Teacher Training University Persian: دانشگاه تربیت معلم) is a major institution of higher education, offering a wide range of undergraduate and postgraduate programs in a variety of disciplines. Kharazmi University is consider the oldest institution of higher education in Iran named after Khwarizmi (780-c. 850), Persian mathematician, astronomer and geographer. It was established in 1919 as the Central Teachers' Institute and gained university status as Tarbiat Moallem University of Tehran in 1974. It changed its name to Kharazmi University in 2010. In 2015, the Iran University of Economic Science was merged into Kharazmi University as its faculty of management,[1] faculty of financial sciences and faculty of economics.

The university is one of the largest universities of Iran, with faculties of science, engineering, mathematical & computer sciences, Persian literature and humanities, psychology & education, physical education & sport sciences, management and economics and chemistry.[2] The university has two campuses, the main campus in the Hesarak area of Karaj and one in downtown Tehran (off Darvazeh-Dowlat and Taleghani metro stations). The president of the university is Dr. Mohammad Ali Sobhanallahi.
