There are two language laboratories a library with a large number of rare books a computer center and laboratories for Geography, Psychology and Physical Education in the faculty. This is the list of departments at the faculty of humanities:

Faculty of Natural Resources and Marine Sciences

The Faculty of Natural Resources and Marine Sciences was founded in 1982 at the city of Noor, Mazandaran Province, beside the Caspian Sea, Iran. The faculty offers a wide range of research opportunities in eight specialized areas. Postgraduate students are welcome to work on the M.Sc. and Ph.D. projects under the supervision of faculty members.

The faculty consists of the following departments: Environmental Science, Forestry, Range Management, Watershed Management Engineering, Wood and Paper Science and Technology, Fisheries, and Marine Biology and Marin Physics. The students acquire fundamental knowledge in their courses and at the end they should carry out their research under the supervision of the faculty members. After graduating, students may be employed in leading universities and research centers in the country.

Faculty of Medical Sciences

Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences was established in 1983 by admitting 65 M.Sc. students in medical science disciplines. The first cohort of M.Sc. students graduated in 1985. Doctoral programs started in 1988 by admitting 26 Ph.D. students in six fields of medical sciences including Biostatistics, Parasitology, Anatomy, Bacteriology, and Biochemistry, according to the Islamic Republic of Iran’s plans to develop and promote higher education programs. The first cohort of Ph.D. students graduated in 1993.

Faculty of Basic Medical Sciences has made a considerable contribution to educating students and to training the academic staff required for higher education and research centers in the country. At the moment more than 800 students are studying at the Faculty of Medical Sciences who will join their expected higher education/research centers in the near future. The faculty consists of 20 departments.

University name

The university's name is a reference to its original purpose, that is, training competent professors for universities all around the country. Tarbiat Modares University was initially in charge of training (tarbiat, تربيت, in Persian) university lecturers (modares, مدرس, in Persian), and selecting its students by a strict screening process in order to reach its aims. Later, however, it admitted students similar to other universities.

The university is not named after Sayyed Hassan Modaress, the revolutionist cleric.
