Tashkent Museum of Railway Equipment was established to contribute information about the history of railways in Uzbekistan. The museum is considered to be the first and only museum in Uzbekistan devoted to railway expositions. The “Tashkent Museum of Railway Equipment” is open to the public.

History

Tashkent Museum of Railway Equipment was opened on August 4, 1989, on the 100-year anniversary of the first railways in Central Asia. The museum is currently sponsoring an exhibit on the development of railway technologies in Uzbekistan in the second half of the 20th century.

About

The museum is located in Tashkent where most of the railway wagons and trains on display were built. There are 13 steam engines, 18 diesel and 3 electric locomotives on display that were used across Uzbekistan to pull different types of wagons - many of which are also on display. There are also exhibits of the equipment required to operate a railway e.g. signals, semaphore and radio and paraphernalia such as emblems, tools and uniforms of the machinists.

Tashkent Museum of Railway Equipment” offers an excursion on one of the oldest trains in Uzbekistan along a track almost 1 km long through its grounds.

It is open from 9 AM until 9 PM Wednesday - Sunday.
