Edward "Ted" Slevin (born 15 July 1927) was an English professional rugby league footballer of the 1940s, 1950s and 1960s, playing at representative level for Great Britain, and England, and at club level for Wigan, and Huddersfield, as a Prop, or Second-row, i.e. number 8 or 10, or, 11 or 12, during the era of contested scrums.
Club career
Wigan
Slevin played in Wigan's 20–2 victory over Huddersfield in the Championship final during the 1949–50 season at Maine Road, Manchester on Saturday 13 May 1950,[2] played in Wigan's victory in the Lancashire League during the 1949–50 season,[3] and played Right-Prop, i.e. number 10, in the 20–7 victory over Leigh in the 1949 Lancashire Cup final during the 1949–50 season at Wilderspool Stadium, Warrington on Saturday 29 October 1949.[4]
Slevin played Left-Second-row, i.e. number 11, and scored a try in the 28–5 victory over Warrington in the 1950 Lancashire Cup final during the 1950–51 season at Station Road, Swinton on Saturday 4 November 1950,[5] and played Right-Second-row, i.e. number 12 in Wigan's 10–0 victory over Barrow in the Challenge Cup final at Wembley Stadium, London on Saturday 5 May 1951.[6]
Huddersfield
Slevin played in Huddersfield's victory in the Yorkshire League during the 1951–52 season. Slevin played Left-Prop, i.e. number 8 in the 15–10 victory over St. Helens in the 1953 Challenge Cup final during the 1952–53 season at Wembley Stadium, London on Saturday 25 April 1953,[7] and played in the 18–8 victory over Batley in the 1952 Yorkshire Cup final during the 1952–53 season at Headingley Stadium on Saturday 15 November 1952.
Slevin played Left-Prop in the 15–8 victory over York in the 1957 Yorkshire Cup final during the 1957–58 season at Headingley Stadium, Leeds on Saturday 19 October 1957, and played Left-Prop in the 10–16 defeat by Wakefield Trinity in the 1960 Yorkshire Cup final during the 1960–61 season at Headingley Stadium, Leeds on Saturday 29 October 1960. Slevin played in the 12–6 defeat by Wakefield Trinity in the 1962 Challenge Cup final during the 1961–62 season at Wembley Stadium, London on Saturday 12 May 1962,[8] and in the club's 14–5 victory over Wakefield Trinity in the Championship final.

All Six Cups
Only five rugby league footballers have won "All Six Cups" during their career, they are; Aubrey Casewell (while at Salford and Leeds), Alan Edwards (while at Salford and Bradford Northern), John Etty (while at Oldham and Wakefield Trinity), Ted Slevin (while at Wigan and Huddersfield), and Derek Turner (while at Oldham and Wakefield Trinity). "All Six Cups" being the Challenge Cup, Championship, Lancashire Cup, Lancashire League, Yorkshire Cup, and Yorkshire League.[9]
Representative career
County honours
Although born in Yorkshire, Slevin moved to Lancashire when he was just a few months old. He played once for Lancashire in April 1949.
International honours
Slevin won caps for England while at Wigan in 1950 against Wales, and while at Huddersfield in 1953 against France.[10] Slevin also represented Great Britain while at Huddersfield in 1953 against France, and in 1954 against France (2 non-Test matches).[11]
Along with William "Billy" Banks, Edward "Ted" Cahill, Gordon Haynes, Keith Holliday, William "Billy" Ivison, Robert "Bob" Kelly, John McKeown, and George Parsons, Slevin's only Great Britain appearances came against France prior to 1957, these matches were not considered as Test matches by the Rugby Football League, and consequently caps were not awarded.[11]
