Tejen (or Tedzhen) is an oasis city in the Karakum Desert, in Ahal Province of Turkmenistan. It is located at latitude 37.3786 North; longitude 60.4961 East at an altitude of 161 meters. It has a population of approximately 52,000.

The Hari River passes near Tejen, and is therefore known in Turkmenistan as the Tejen River.

Wildlife

It is located in an area that used to have Caspian tigers, which could intrude the area from Iran. Iran also had lions, and its presence nearby was a reason why Heptner and Sludskii (1972) could not deny the occurrence of lions in this region as well.[1]

Transport

It is a stop on the Trans-Caspian railway, and in the 1990s a new line to Mashhad in Iran was opened.
