2009-2010 Campaign for Cook County Board President

O'Brien was defeated in his run for Cook County Board President in the February 2, 2010 Democratic Primary Election. His opponents included Cook County Circuit Court Clerk Dorothy Brown; incumbent Cook County Board President Todd Stroger; and the winner, Toni Preckwinkle, a Chicago Alderman.

A December 2009 Chicago Tribune newspaper poll put O'Brien in last place behind all four of his fellow challengers, including the oft-criticized Stroger.[1] O'Brien finished a distant second.
