Thangadh

Thangdh is by faith in the serpent worship. Thangdh land is called the land of the snake. Dev Nag Vasuki is worshiped in this city.

Vasuki nag is set up as a rustic god or gramya devta in thangadh. Vasuki mandir temple is located near the Pritam pond, Thangadh.

Thangadh is an industrial town and a municipality located southwest of Surendranagar in Surendranagar district in the Indian state of Gujarat. A large number of small-scale Ceramic manufacturing units are located around Thangadh. Thangadh, Wankaner and Morbi form the Ceramic triangle. Chief products are Sanitaryware (Wash Basins, Water Closets etc.) and Glazed Wall Tiles. These units also cater to lower-end overseas market (Middle East, African Countries, Sri Lanka, Bangladesh, etc.)

The ceramic units employ several thousand unskilled workers in the region.

Tarnetar is 10 km away. A fair, Mela in Gujarati, is held every year around first week of Bhadarva(Hindu Month) there and attracts tourists from all-over India and world. The fair showcases the colorful and vibrant culture of the Saurashtra region.

Demographics

As of 2001 India census,[2] Thangadh had a population of 75,000+. Males constitute 53% of the population and females 47%. Thangadh has an average literacy rate of 59%, lower than the national average of 59.5%: male literacy is 67%, and female literacy is 49%. In Thangadh, 16% of the population is under 6 years of age.

Thangadh is the ceramic hub for all India. There are almost 300 units; including Sompuras,Witco Potteries, etc. producing sanitaryware, firebricks, eclectic porcelains and tiles items at thangadh. Many of these also export Sanitaryware in Gulf and African countries. Generally the quality of the product is a bit more than acceptable ones, with no frills like customised items. The prices are really attractive. It is helping in fulfilling the vision of CLEAN CITY, GREEN CITY, by allowing even low income people to have sanitation facilities at their door step.

Recent news is of the GAS firing of the kilns. LPG gas is now made available through a pipeline, to all the factory owners. They will be getting it within 2 to 3 months.

Railway Junction

Thangadh is served by railway junction station called Than. The railway code of station is THAN.[3]
