Tharuhat is one of the provinces established by the new constitution of Nepal which was adopted on 20 September 2015 and referred to as Province No. 5. Government of Nepal and ruling class Bahun and Chhetri Hindu elites carved Kailali and Kanchanpur district out of Tharuhat as their population held the majority in those two districts who migrated there in recent years from nearby hills of Northern Nepal. Tharu people along with other Madhesi people are protesting such moves of elites and demanding Autonomous Tharuhat Province with full sovereign decentralized power within Nepal in Western Madhesh . Even within newly carved Tharuhat province, ruling elites made upto 60% of population by adding 6 northern districts where ruling Pahari people only lives and holds majority which may suppress Tharu and Madhesi ethnic in provincial levels and elites class people may hold all the provincial powers by ruling Tharuhat as their colony. On other hand Tharu people in Kailali and kanchanpur districts makes majority in southern belts of those two districts and demanding to be within Tharuhat province in western Madhesh, they thinks ruling class elites pahari peoples mainly bahun and chhetri people will suppress them as they are still suppressed since centuries ago and this may continue even for next century if Tharu population divides in two provinces.[1] Tharuwan is also the homeland of Madhesi and Tharu people in Madhesh region of Nepal. It comprises the 11 South-Western Madhesh districts of Nepal. Tharuhat sometimes used as a synonym for western part of Madhesh. Tharuhat was proposed Tharu ethnic state by Madhesi Morcha within multicultural Nepal, which has had many ethnic groups striving for autonomy. It was represented by the Tharuhat Tarai Party Nepal, Madhesi Janadhikar forum, Democratic and other Madhesi Alliance(morcha) who are considered Dalits and lower caste minorities in the traditional Hindu caste system. However, the Alliance for Independent Madhesh leader DR. CK Raut proposes a separate country for Tharuhat.[2] Deadly clashes have broken out between Tharu protestors with government forces[3] repeatedly[4] over demands.
