The Adventures of MC Skat Kat and the Stray Mob is a 1991 album from fictional rapper MC Skat Kat.

Background

The album came about as the result of Paula Abdul's hugely successful "Opposites Attract" video of 1990, which was directed by Michael Patterson and Candace Reckinger. The Stray Mob consists of Fatz (the short, raspy voiced cat who happens to be the second most heard in the album), Taboo, Micetro, Leo, Katleen, and Silk, the first three of whom also appeared in the Opposites Attract music video. Abdul's only vocal appearance on the album can be heard in the song "On the Prowl." Two music videos featuring Skat Kat were also directed by Patterson and Reckinger, one of which was shown to the public.

Singles

Skat Strut — the first of Skat's songs to become a single, completed in the summer of 1991, was meant to be the kickoff of his solo career as a featured artist. The vocal style and length in the music video differed from those from the album version.[1]

Big Time — the second of the Skat Kat solo videos. It was finished in January 1992, but it has not yet been fully released. Much of the animation was done by Eric Goldberg, who was the lead animator for the Genie in Disney's Aladdin feature film at that time.[1]

In 1999 The A.V. Club named The Adventures of MC Skat Kat and the Stray Mob the "least essential" album of the 1990s, calling it "a product of clueless committee thinking and Milli Vanilli-style studio hackwork at its most cynical" and concluding that "never has a mass-produced album been demanded by so few."
