The Bachelor Canada is a Canadian reality television series, based on the American television series of the same name which premiered on October 3, 2012, on the City television network.[1] Following the premiere The Bachelor Canada moved to its regular time slot Wednesdays after Modern Family.[2]

In 2015, W announced The Bachelorette Canada.

Production

It was announced that The Bachelor was coming to Canada on City's Breakfast Television by the American host, Chris Harrison.[1] The show is produced by Good Human Productions based in Vancouver.[3] Filming began in Spring 2012.[3]

On May 1, 2012, former Canadian Football League slotback Brad Smith was announced as the Bachelor for the opening season of the series on that morning's episode of Breakfast Television.[4]

The Host

Tyler Harcott, originally from Calgary, Alberta,[5] began his career in radio as a disc jockey for a local radio station in Red Deer, Alberta. He then decided to continue his career by travelling to Hong Kong where he broke into the television industry hosting three programs for Startv Network.[6] As travel became Harcott's biggest passion, he continued onto South East Asia and the Middle East, more specifically, India, Dubai, and Indonesia. Harcott then returned to Canada where he landed a hosting position that also required writing and producing a live entertainment show for A-Channel Calgary named "Wired." Tyler then moved to Los Angeles where he hosted the stunt show I Dare You! as well as Junkyard Wars and Miss America: Countdown to the Crown for TLC. This experience led Harcott to New York City where he hosted Guess Who's Coming to Decorate and The Complex: Malibu for FOX.[7]

The Bachelor

Brad Smith was born on October 2, 1983 in Hudson, Quebec by his parents, Larry Smith, a Senator, former CFL Commissioner, and former President and CEO of the Montreal Alouettes, and his mother Leesa Smith. He has one sister, Ashley Smith who is married to Damon Duval. Brad is twenty-eight years old, playing for the CFL and settled in Toronto, Ontario with his newly found fiance. Throughout his childhood, Brad had several football seasons with a variety of teams: Montreal Alouettes, Toronto Argonauts, and the Edmonton Eskimos. Brad received a scholarship at St. Andrew's College, located in Aurora, Ontario, and later advanced to Queen's University in Kingston, Ontario. Living as a professional athlete, Brad has adjusted to living an upbeat and on-the-go lifestyle, he had never had the opportunity to seek "true love." This feeling led him to audition for The Bachelor Canada. Brad had high hopes of finding love and starting a family. These hopes and dreams were realized when he picked Bianka Kamber as the winner of season one of The Bachelor Canada.[8]

City ordered 9 and aired episodes of the new series.[3]
