The Big Music Quiz is an upcoming Australian television game show based on the French series of the same name and will be hosted by Darren McMullen. It is set to air on the Seven Network in late 2016. The show pits celebrities in which they need to answer a range of trivia challenges, these include: identifying original artists of popular cover titles, recognizing song titles played at ten times it's normal speed and trying to work out a song sung in a different language.[1][2][3]

Background

On March 13, 2016, it was announced that the Seven Network had purchased the local rights for an Australian version of The Big Music Quiz. It was also confirmed that production would start in April with Darren McMullen to present.[2]

Three days after the announcement, an audience call was released. It requires enthusiastic audience members who will be willing to stand and dance as part of the show.[4]

Format

The celebrities begin in a test round where they are tested in there musical knowledge. After this, the top scoring celebrities must pick teams which from then on, there are six different rounds. In round one, the celebrities must identify original artists of popular cover titles. In other rounds, they are to recognize song titles played at ten times it's normal speed, go through a personalized round where they are tested on extracts linked to their career and try to work out a cover version of a song sung in a different language. During the final, the team which has scored themselves the most points face each other and go head-to-head. Each celebrity in that team must shout out the song titles they hear within the two minutes given. In addition to all this, there is also an app which allows viewers to play along while they are watching at home.[5]
