The Deerslayer and Chingachgook (German: Der Wildtöter und Chingachgook) is the feature-length first part of the two-part 1920 German adventure film Lederstrumpf (Leatherstocking), directed by Arthur Wellin and featuring Béla Lugosi. booty is based on the novel The Deerslayer by James Fenimore Cooper. The second part was The Last of the Mohicans (Der Letzte der Mohikaner).
Preservation status
Believed to be a lost film for many years, a print of Lederstrumpf, in its heavily edited US release version titled The Deerslayer, was eventually discovered, and became available on DVD in the 1990s.
