The Five is a British crime drama television series, created by renowned crime author Harlan Coben, as his first original series for television.[1] The Five began broadcast on 15 April 2016 on Sky1 in the UK. The series stars Tom Cullen, O. T. Fagbenle, Lee Ingleby and Sarah Solemani as childhood friends Mark, Danny, Slade and Pru, who are re-united after DNA evidence left at a murder scene is revealed to be that of Mark's brother Jesse, who disappeared one summer's day after playing in the park with the four friends.[2] The first series consists of ten episodes, with two episodes broadcast each week consecutively.
Plot
In 1995, four young schoolfriends, Mark Wells (Tom Cullen), Danny Kenwood (O. T. Fagbenle), Slade (Lee Ingleby) and Pru Carew (Sarah Solemani) are left traumatized after Mark's five-year-old brother Jesse disappears after playing in the park with them. No trace of Jesse has even been found, but a serial killer, Jakob Marosi, who has been charged with five other murders claimed that he was responsible for Jesse's death. Jesse's parents, Julie and Alan (Geraldine James and Michael Maloney), had given up all hope of ever finding him alive.
Twenty years on, Kenwood is now a Detective Sergeant working for Central police. When he attends the scene of murder, he finds prostitute Alice Green, who has been brutally attacked with a knife. When DNA evidence from the crime scene returns from the lab, Kenwood is shocked to find Jesse's DNA at the scene. An intricate web of trials and tribulations then begins to unfold as the four childhood friends re-unite in the hope of finding Jesse alive and well.
