The Fucking Buckaroos is a folk punk band from San Francisco, California. The band is known for their blending of a number of genres including American folk, country, and bluegrass.
History
The Fucking Buckaroos were formed in San Francisco, CA in 2004 by Tim Sandberg, Thomas Puhek, and Sean Taylor. Originally a three piece acoustic act, the band added Ricky Pugh and Andrew Appleton to the line up in fall of 2004. In 2005, the band solidified its current instrumentation including guitar, mandolin, banjo, bass, and drums. They released an EP titled "When Cops Rode Bulls"[1] the same year on Fort Faxon records, named after the house on Faxon avenue in San Francisco where Ricky and Andy lived.[2] In 2007, the band released a full-length, self-titled CD.[3][4] To support the album, the band launched a month and a half-long tour that spanned the US,[5] Canada, and Mexico. In 2009, the band released a split 7" vinyl-only record with Tijuana-based psychobilly band Los Helldandys titled "Popular Romance."[6][7][8][9][10] In 2010, their version of Swingin' Utters "Fruitless Fortunes" was featured on the Untitled 21: A Juvenile Tribute to the Swingin' Utters.[11][12]
Over a two-week time period which spanned the weeks surrounding New Year's Day of 2012, the Buckaroos played a series of shows in Mexico, including Tijuana, Mexico City, and Oaxaca.[13] While in Mexico City, the band played a landmark show for inmates at a youth detention center, known as a Reclusorio.[14][15]
In 2013, the Buckaroos embarked on a three-week tour of Germany and Belgium[16][17][18][19][20] to promote "II"[21][22][23] and their upcoming releases.
In Winter of 2013, the Buckaroos went on an extended hiatus, with Pugh moving to Nashville seeking "a place with less overhead and good music," and Sandberg having his first child.[24] Before calling a break, the group recorded several songs to be released in two parts. The first part, "Puro Pinche Pari" EP, was released in 2015,[25][26] and includes a cover version of the Los Tigres del Norte song "Contrabando Y Traición," and "Fiesta" by The Pogues. The second part has yet to be released.
