The Gossip Game is an American reality television series on VH1 that debuted on April 1, 2013, and chronicles the lives of seven media personalities who cover the urban entertainment market and reside in New York City.[2] Cast member Vivian Billings confirmed via her blog in June 2013 that the series will not be returning for a second season.[3]
Cast
Angela Yee
Angela Yee began her career as a radio co-host on the "Cipha Sounds Effect" morning show at Sirius Satellite Radio. Yee later acquired her own weekly nighttime show, "Lip Service", which provided unheard women time to showcase their personalities and provide interviews. She moved to morning radio with her show "The Morning After with Angela Yee", which was the final step prior to her becoming one of the most coveted urban radio hosts. Yee later left Siruis Radio after six years and accepted a position "The Breakfast Club" on Power 105.1 in New York City. As well as her radio career, she is partnered with Belvedere Vodka, columnist for Vibe Magazine and spokesperson for Miss Jessie's Pillow Soft Curls.[4]
Candice "Ms. Drama" Williams
Candice "Ms. Drama" Williams was first introduced into the media world while attending Spelman College, where she gained a position at WSB-TV. Williams later continued her interest in journalism at New York University. She was able to work at Newsday as part of the review crew, Hot 97/Emmis Communications as a promotion assistant and board operator, ABC Daytime and a youth marketing consultant and MtvU.[5]
Williams was offered an on-air spot at an online radio station in Brooklyn, NY. She was an afternoon host, reported entertainment news and interviewed artists during her two-hour weekly time slot. Candice gained popularity for her comical news segments and upbeat interviews, which subsequently lead to her nickname of "Drama Queen" and evolved into Ms. Drama. Within the past years, Williams is co-hosting an international hip hop show on Sirius Satellite radio, hosts her own weekly online radio shows on Break Thru and her public access TV show, Ms. Drama TV.[6]
JasFly
JasFly is a Chicago native who moved to New York and holds a career as a journalist, writer and multi-media personality. She attended the film program at Columbia College. Jas unveiled FlyStyleLife.com — a entertainment news website — in 2007. She would later join JumpOff TV's "Debate Lounge". Most recently, Jas partners with artists to strength their brands on the internet. She also is the Ambassador to Pop Culture for ooVoo and writes a column for VIBE.com.[7][8]
K. Foxx
K. Foxx was born and raised on New York City. She graduated from the Professional Performing Arts High School which later led to her attending Shaw University, where she first dipped into the world of radio and television. Foxx moved to Miami after she accepted a position to join WEDR 99Jamz. She later hosted "The Takeover" with DJ Khaled. She was awarded Best Female Air Personality by the Miami New Times and voted Best Radio Personality by the Broward New Times. After her work in Miami, K. Foxx was chosen by WQHT Hot 97 in New York to join the Cipha Sounds and Rosenberg Morning Show.[9] She has recently joined the cast of Extra as their New York correspondent.[10]
Kimberly "Kim" Osorio
Kimberly "Kim" Osorio, born to a Puerto Rican father and a mother of African-American and Chinese background, was brought to fame when she became the first and only female Editor In Chief of The Source Magazine. Osorio has a Juris Doctor from New York Law School and a Bachelor of Arts in Fine Arts from Fordham University. She has been in hip-hop publishing for over 15 years both via print and online media starting in 2005 when she was hired as the Executive Editor at BET.com then became the Vice President of Content at Global Grind.[11]
Osorio's main time in the spotlight occurred in 2006 when she sued Source Magazine and won $7.5 million in damages.[12] The jury decided that she was unlawfully fired for filing a complaint of gender discrimination, and that the owners at the company defamed her as well. She would later release a personal memoir, entitled Straight From The Source: An Expose From The Former Editor In Chief of the Hip Hop Bible, to officially tell her side. In 2012, she was appointed as Vice President of Content & Editorial of The NorthStar Group and as Editor-In-Chief of The Source yet again.[13][14]
Sharon Carpenter
Carpenter was born and raised in the United Kingdom.[15] She is an award-winning, on-air/online journalist, host and producer who worked on several American networks, and interviewed an extensive list of high-profile subjects. Sharon works both in the hip hop and Hollywood-related and the world of hard news.[16]
Vivian Billings
Vivian Denise Billings, also dubbed the "NYC Gossip Girl", came into the entertainment industry in 2001 as a talent coordinator for "All Access DVD". Billings created HipHopGossipSite.com in 2008 as a site which provided news and "gossip" about celebrities, as well as exclusive content. She went onto co-host with Lisa Evers where she reported news and gossip relating to hip hop and entertainment.[17]
