The Handmaiden is an upcoming South Korean film based on the novel Fingersmith by Sarah Waters, being directed by Park Chan-wook and starring Kim Min-hee, Ha Jung-woo and Kim Tae-ri. The story follows an heiress who falls in love with a petty thief. The film is scheduled for release in 2016.^[1] It has been selected to compete for the Palme d'Or at the 2016 Cannes Film Festival.^{[2][3] [4]}

The film is set in Korea and in Japan during the 1930s.^[1]
