The Hard Interchange is a transport interchange in Portsmouth, southern England. It is located about a mile south-west from the city centre. It offers bus and coach transport, and the neighbouring Portsmouth Harbour Station provides trains to London, Cardiff and Brighton. It is a short walk from the Gunwharf Quays shopping and entertainment development.
There are also two passenger ferry services running from The Hard Interchange. A fast catamaran service operated by Wightlink travels to Ryde on the Isle of Wight, and the Gosport Ferry runs to Gosport.
Future plans
The facilities at The Hard Interchange are somewhat dated and in need of upgrading to complement the nearby Gunwharf Quays. This area could also become a more important focus if development proposals within the Historic Dockyard Heritage Area progress. The council is considering either refurbishment or redevelopment. The interchange will be updated but also the area around it could see residential properties.[1]
