The Hectics (1958–1962) were Freddie Mercury's (then known as Farrokh Bulsara) first music band; the other members of the band were Derrick Branche, Bruce Murray, Farang Irani and Victory Rana. The school-band was formed while all five were students at St. Peter's Boys School, an English boarding school in Panchgani, near Bombay (now Mumbai), India.[1] The band only played at school events and were not allowed to venture outside for bookings.
Derrick Branche (born in 1947, in Bombay, India) went on to appear in British films such as My Beautiful Laundrette and television shows such as Only When I Laugh as male nurse Gupta, The Comic Strip Presents... and Father Ted.[2]
Bruce Murray currently runs The Music Centre[3] in Bedford, England. His step-son Guy Griffin plays with British rock Band The Quireboys.
Victory Rana was a general in the Nepali army and headed a peacekeeping force in Cyprus. The Late Farang Irani, the bass player, joined his family’s restaurant business and ran Bounty Sizzlers, a Pune restaurant.[4]
