The Last... series

The Last... series is a series of books by late Scottish author Harry Horse. It consists of four books—The Last Polar Bears, The Last Gold Diggers, The Last Cowboys and The Last Castaways.

The Last Polar Bears was turned into a 30-minute cartoon for CITV in 2000 and a touring theatre production by the National Theatre of Scotland in 2012.

They all tell of the travels of Grandpa and his dog, Roo, who is based on Harry's real-life dog of the same name and are told through Grandpa's letters to his Granddaughter.

The Last Gold Diggers

Grandpa and Roo go to Australia to find Uncle Vincent who went to gold field to look for gold.

The Last Cowboys

Grandpa and Roo take a holiday to North America via "The Get Lost Travel Agency" in the hope of finding Roo's long lost grandfather called Old Blue who used to live with a cowboy.

There was also a Jacknory Junior episode based on this book shown on Cbeebies.
