"The Metal" is a song by Tenacious D from their 2006 album The Pick of Destiny. The album was a soundtrack for the film. The song is played during the end credits of the film and is the final track on the album.

Tenacious D plays "The Metal" regularly at concerts. The song debuted during the The Pick of Destiny tour in 2006 and was accompanied by JR Reed (as "Lee") in a huge metal costume. On December 2, 2006, Tenacious D performed as the musical guest on Saturday Night Live.[1] For that performance of "The Metal," the titular part was played with the addition of members of the then-current SNL cast playing the other genres of music that were "smitten" by the Metal. The costume also featured at the Spike Video Game Awards 2006 and was last worn by Reed at the 2010 Blizzcon Convention in Anaheim, California. In 2013, Mike Bray returned and took over the role of The Metal up until the costume was auctioned off to support victims of the November 2015 Paris attacks in December 2015.

The song appeared in the video game Guitar Hero III: Legends of Rock as a 6th tier song out of 8. It also appeared as a DLC for the video game, Rock Band. The song was part of the song playlist in the game, Brütal Legend.
