The Old Man Who Loved Cheese

The Old Man Who Loved Cheese is a one-act opera by Edward Barnes, based on a story by Garrison Keillor. The opera was commissioned by the Children's Theatre Company of Minneapolis and premiered there in January, 2000 for a run of 75 performances. Other productions of the work include Opera of the Ozarks and the University of Oregon.

Cast: Wallace P. Flynn (tenor), Wallace's Wife (mezzo-soprano), Wallace's Daughter (soprano), Wallace's Son (tenor), Easy Ed (baritone), Judge Madeleine Kline (mezzo-soprano), Scientific Experts, Cheese Police, Neighbors, Restaurant Patrons, etc. (adults and children)

Duration: 35 minutes

Orchestration: Piano, or small chamber orchestra (flute, oboe, clarinet, bassoon, piano, accordion, percussion, string quartet, bass)
