The Park is a 2015 first-person psychological horror adventure game developed and published by Funcom.[1] The game was released via Steam on October 27, 2015 and is a spin-off of an earlier Funcom game, The Secret World.[2][3] It is set to be released for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One on May 3, 2016.[4]

Gameplay

Player can search the empty amusement park and read and/or pick up items like fliers, newspapers, and management folders that give information on the park and its employees. Player also has the option to ride some of the park's attractions and call out for the player character's son, which can have an effect on the surrounding area.

Plot

Lorraine is a single mother who has to locate her missing son, Callum, who has run into an amusement park called Atlantic Island Park just as it was closing for the day. Although she can occasionally hear him calling for her, she is unable to immediately locate him and she soon finds that the park has closed down despite her remaining inside. As she travels through the park calling for her son Callum, Lorraine begins to find notes and flyers that hint at the disturbing past of the park.

Development

The Park was announced by Funcom on August 26, 2015. According to Funcom's Rui Casais, the games' development began as an experiment by a small team. The team hoped to utilize the worlds from their previous massively multiplayer online games, and reshape them into some smaller single-player games. According to Casasis, it was "creatively energising" for the team to work on a new single-player game as their last game with a single-player focus was Dreamfall: The Longest Journey in 2006.[5] The game's universe is based on 2012's The Secret World.[6]

The game was announced for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One in November 2015.[7] Funcom later announced that the console versions will be released on May 3, 2016, making it the first Funcom game developed for consoles since Dreamfall in 2006.[8]

Reception

The game currently holds a rating of 66 out of 100 on Metacritic based on 24 reviews, indicating "mixed or average reviews".[9]
