The Park Theatre is a theatre in Finsbury Park, London which opened on 8 May 2013.[1] The artistic director, Jez Bond, intends its programme to include new writing, classics, 19th Century drama and musicals.

Building

In November 2009 Bond acquired a disused office building at 11-13 Clifton Terrace.[2] Planning permission was granted in October 2010.[3] The theatre was designed by David Hughes[4][5] with assistance from theatre consultants Charcoal Blue.[6] The £2.2m cost was met by private donors and by the sale of flats built above the theatre.[7] The main theatre seats 200 in two tiers around a thrust stage,[6] there is also a 90 seat studio theatre and a cafe bar.[6] Backstage are three dressing rooms, a green room, wardrobe, offices and prop stores.[6] An education floor on site was planned but required significant fundraising.[8][9][10]

Ambassadors

The theatre has attracted a number of high profile ambassadors including Celia Imrie [11][12] and Tamzin Outhwaite.[12] Sir Ian McKellen is also a supporter and has visited the site.[13][11][9]

Open Book Accounting

Bond has talked about the importance of transparency and operating an open book accounting policy with regards to both in-house and incoming productions.[8]

Awards

Park Theatre won the The Stage's Fringe Theatre of the Year Award (for 2014) in January 2015.[14]
