The People's Book Prize (UK)

The People's Book Prize is an annual UK literary award, first awarded in July 2010. There is no panel of judges. Titles are nominated by publishers, and are voted for by the public.

The prize is administered by Tatiana Wilson, an independent publisher, for The People's Book Prize Limited. One of its roles is to recognize the work of first-time authors.

Patron

Dame Beryl Bainbridge DBE was the prize's founding patron. Following her death in July 2010, she was succeeded as patron by Frederick Forsyth CBE.

At the launch of the prize at the 2009 London Book Fair, Bainbridge said: "Something like this, this idea – which is absolutely amazing – once it takes off, it will be of enormous importance to writers. I look forward to the time when we mention this particular prize as the greatest – and look back – and remember I was at the meeting at the London Book Fair and think where it has gone! So I wish it tremendously good luck."
