The Read[1] is a weekly one-hour pop culture podcast based in New York City. One of several podcasts affiliated with the Loud Speakers Network headlined by The Combat Jack Show,[2] The Read is hosted by vlogger Kid Fury and internet personality Crissle West.[3][4][5]
During podcast episodes, Kid Fury and Crissle discuss and analyze pop culture and current events.[3][4][5] The two hosts have been friends for many years, and this camaraderie adds to the witty banter listeners enjoy each week.[6] The first episode was released on March 4, 2013. The Read is distributed via the iTunes Store, iHeartRadio Talk, Soundcloud, and Stitcher. On iTunes, the podcast peaked at number three in the "New and Noteworthy" section charts and at number one in the comedy section charts.[4]
The podcast's format has three sections: "Hot Topics," as selected by Kid Fury (the segment has undergone several name changes, including the fan favorite, "Bitch, You Guessed It!!"), "Listener Letters," as curated by Crissle (the segment is changed to "Listener Questions" when done during a live show), and "The Read," where Kid Fury and Crissle "read" (African American gay slang for giving one's harsh opinion)[4] a person or topic.[4]
Special guests have included Kelly Rowland, Mike Brown, Franchesca Ramsey, Dustin Ross, Shaun Ross, Freshalina, Charlamagne Tha God, Estelle, Jenifer Lewis, Jazmine Sullivan, Reagan Gomez, and Roblé Ali. "The Friend Zone" podcast group also make regular collaboration appearances.
