The Red Snowball Tree (Russian: Калина красная) is a 1974 Soviet film directed by Vasily Shukshin. It was the most successful film of that year. In total the film was watched by over 140 million people.[2] German film director and screenwriter Rainer Werner Fassbinder included The Red Snowball Tree in the top ten of their favorite films.[3]
Plot
Coming out of the colony, a thief-recidivist Yegor Prokudin (Shukshin) named Mount decides to go to the village where he lives, blue-eyed stranger Luba (Fedoseyeva-Shukshina), with whom he corresponded - it is necessary to wait a little bit and look around. But life in the village destroys all plans Yegor, and he decides to break with the past for ever. Now he has friends, work, love a woman. However, criminals - former friends Yegor - are not going to put up with his new way of life.
