The Saturday Paper is an Australian weekly newspaper, first published on 1 March 2014. It was notable for being launched in hard copy, as an online newspaper and in mobile news format.[1][2] The paper is circulated throughout Australian capital cities and major regional centres. Its coverage of current affairs, culture and Australian politics has drawn criticism and praise from media commentators.[3][4]

Publication

The Saturday Paper is published by Morry Schwartz via his Schwartz Media company, which also publishes The Monthly[2] and the Quarterly Essay.[5] Upon its launch Schwartz stated he expected The Saturday Paper to be profitable within several years, and the paper should sell "between 60,000 and 80,000 copies a week".[5]

Contributors

Weekly contributors include journalists Paul Bongiorno, Mungo MacCallum, Martin McKenzie-Murray, Sophie Morris, Mike Seccombe and cartoonist Geoff Pryor.

Other regular contributors include authors David Marr, Christos Tsiolkas, Margaret Simons, Richard Flanagan, Robert Dessaix, Leigh Sales, Clem Bastow and Helen Razer, ex-Federal MPs Tony Windsor and Rob Oakeshott and musicians Dave Faulkner and Robert Forster.[6]
