The School are a Welsh indiepop group based in Cardiff, Wales.
Their sound owes heavily to 1960s influences such as The Beach Boys and girl groups such as The Ronnettes and The Shangri-Las, along with more recent indiepop acts Camera Obscura and Belle and Sebastian.
Career
Formed in 2007, the band signed with Spanish label Elefant Records, after playing only 4 live shows, supporting Saturday Looks Good to Me.[1]
Debut double A-Sided single "All I Wanna Do"/"Valentine" was released on limited edition bubblegum pink vinyl in February 2008, followed by the Let It Slip EP in June. "And Suddenly" (Left Banke cover) was released in August on Slumberland Records, as a split single with George Washington Brown.
The band's debut album Loveless Unbeliever was released on 31 May 2010, produced by Ian Catt.[2]
In 2010 The School performed a live concert on Spanish television show 'Los Conciertos De Radio 3'.[3] They were also nominated for 'Best International Artist' at the Spanish Independent Music Awards 2011.[4]
Second album Reading Too Much Into Things Like Everything was released on 14 May 2012.[5] It was recorded at Bryn Derwen Studios in Bethesda, North Wales, by David Wrench.
Limited edition picture disc 7" single 'When I Fall In Love' was released in August 2014 on the label Where It's At Is Where You Are's '7777777' singles club (and digitally through Elefant), with an illustration by artist Andy Hart.[6]
In 2015 record label Kingfisher Bluez released a series of 7" singles curated by other independent labels. Buddy System: A Kingfisher Bluez Singles Club included a split single chosen by Elefant Records, featuring 'When I Fall In Love (Pagan Wanderer Lu remix)'.[7]
The band's third album Wasting Away and Wondering was released in September 2015 by Elefant Records.[8] It was recorded at Giant Wafer Studios in Mid Wales, by Rob Jones aka The Voluntary Butler Scheme.
