Champions of Anteria is a real-time strategy and action role-playing game being developed by Ubisoft Blue Byte and published by Ubisoft. The game was originally part of the The Settlers series and was known as The Settlers: Kingdoms of Anteria, but Ubisoft renamed the game and turned it into a new property in April 2016. The game is set to be released on August 30, 2016[1]

Gameplay

In Champions of Anteria players will command five champions, each skilled with using one main elemental power of water, fire, metal, nature or lightning. Players will pick three champions to fight each mission, strategically choosing the powers they will bring in battle to give them the upper hand on the field. Each element is even more powerful when used against the matching weak power, players must carefully choose which element is the most effective against certain enemies and when they should order to retreat. The strategic combat system also uses active pause mechanics to help players take their time in battle, allowing them to pause the game at any time in order to adapt their play style and carefully plan their moves. There is also a home base system in which players can craft new gear and items and develop their Champions. [2]

Development

Some users that were part of Kingdoms of Anteria's closed beta have shared their doubts regarding the game's future on Ubisoft's official forums.[3][4] The lack of recent news regarding the game has led to speculation on whether Kingdoms of Anteria will ever be released,[5][6] especially since the game was originally announced to be released in 2014.[7]

However, according to BlueByte's LinkedIn profile, Kingdoms of Anteria is still in development at BlueByte's studios in Düsseldorf, Germany.[8] And the game's official Facebook page shows the game was still in development as of March, 2015.[9]

In April 2016 Ubisoft announced that Kingdoms of Anteria has transformed to a new game, named Champions of Anteria, making it a new intellectual property instead of a game based on the universe of The Settlers.[10]
