The Shadow Self is the upcoming seventh studio album released by Finnish vocalist Tarja Turunen. The record will be released on the 5 August 2016.
“I am very excited to finally be able to share the first details of my new heavy rock album with all of you,” says Tarja. “‘The Shadow Self’ is full of songs that are very dear to me. I cannot wait for you to hear the record that I believe is one of my heaviest albums to date. Keep your eyes open as there will be many surprises along the way to the album release on August 5th. I really mean it. Surprises will follow very soon”
Background
The songwriting started just after the release of Colours... in 2013 and Tarja gave hints through her facebook and twitter along the way. In the start of 2016 Tarja started to reveal more bits about the album and put up bits of lyrics on Facebook. Tarja also stated on her Twitter account that there would be two collaborations with two woman singers on the album.
In October 17, 2015, Tarja performed two new songs. "No Bitter End" and "Goldfinger", which would be the first glimpses of the new album. Tarja also revealed that this album would be the heaviest in her career.
On March 14, 2016, the artwork and album name finally got revealed. She also revealed that big surprises would be coming very soon.
On March 22, 2016, Earmusic released a snippet of No Bitter End on YouTube.
On April 7, 2016, Earmusic revealed the prequel named The Brighest Void to be released on 3rd of June with 9 tracks. Its important to notice that this is an album by itself but also ties together with The Shadow Self.[2]
On April 14, 2016, Earmusic released a trailer for the coming video No Bitter End, the whole video will be released on the 20th of April.
On April 20, 2016, Earmusic released the first music video No Bitter End.
