The Snoop Sisters is an American comedy-mystery television show that aired on NBC during the 1973–1974 season.

The series aired on a monthly rotation (referred to as a "wheel") as part of the NBC Wednesday Mystery Movie, trading timeslots with Banacek, Tenafly, and Faraday and Company. Of these series, only Banacek demonstrated any longevity.

Synopsis

The show stars Hollywood film legends Helen Hayes and Mildred Natwick as two elderly sisters, Ernesta Snoop and Gwendolyn Snoop Nicholson, who routinely stumbled across mysteries which they solved. They first appeared on ABC in a TV movie titled The Snoop Sisters (later retitled The Female Instinct), which aired December 16, 1972.

The series followed the 1971 ABC television movie Do Not Fold, Spindle, or Mutilate, which also starred Hayes and Natwick working together as amateur sleuths.

Guest stars during the series' brief run included: Joan Blondell, Art Carney, Jill Clayburgh, Alice Cooper, William Devane, Tammy Grimes, George Maharis, Roddy McDowall, Geraldine Page, Walter Pidgeon, Vincent Price, Fritz Weaver and, in her final screen appearance, Paulette Goddard.

Reception

Both Natwick and Hayes were nominated for an Emmy Award for their work on the program; Natwick won. Only four 90-minute episodes of the series were ever produced.

Although the series did not last, it made an attempt to cover timely material by featuring musician Alice Cooper, essentially as himself, but called "Prince", in an episode entitled "The Devil Made Me Do It", which aired March 5, 1974.[1]
