The Song We Fell in Love To is the twenty eighth studio album by American country music artist, Connie Smith. The album was released in March 1976 on Columbia Records and was produced by Ray Baker. It was the first of two albums released in 1976 and contained Smith's Top 10 hit, "(Till) I Kissed You."
Background
The Song We Fell in Love To consisted of ten tracks and was recorded in 1975 at the Columbia Recording Studio in Nashville, Tennessee. The album included a re-recorded version of Smith's 1964 #1 single, "Once a Day." The album included three songs written by songwriter, Dallas Frazier: "Because I Love You That's Why," "Ridin' on a Rainbow," and "Viva La Love." The album also included a cover version of The Everly Brothers hit, "(Till) I Kissed You," which was later released as a single in 1976. In addition, the album also included the Gospel song, "When I Need Jesus, He's There."[1] The album was released on a 12-inch LP album, with five songs on each side of the record.[2]
Release
The Song We Fell in Love To released two singles between 1975 and 1976. The album's title track was released as the first single in September 1975, becoming a Top 30 hit in the United States, reaching #29 on the Billboard Magazine Hot Country Songs chart. "(Till) I Kissed You" was released as the second single in January 1976, becoming a major hit in the United States and Canada. In the United States, the song became Smith's first Top 10 hit in three years, reaching #10 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs chart.[3] In Canada, it became her second number one hit on the Canadian RPM Country Tracks chart. Also, the album peaked at #34 on the Billboard Top Country Albums chart upon its release in March 1976.[4]
