Plot
After failing a job interview, Annabeth Chase is going to the subway to go to Percy Jackson's apartment. She notices, and starts to follow, a monster with a wolf head and a lion head. Annabeth decides to follow the monster into the subway station. As she does not have a weapon, she starts an argument between the two heads. Sadie Kane steps off a train as it pulls into the station, casting several spells on the monster, which runs away. Annabeth and Sadie introduce themselves, and Sadie asks if Annabeth wants to help her walk her dog, "Fido". On the walk, they talk, exchanging information about their different worlds. "Fido" runs away from them, and Annabeth and Sadie are blown backwards by an unknown force. Annabeth picks up Sadie's wand and it turns into a dagger. Sadie tells her to keep it. Sadie then realizes that Fido was heading straight for a "storm". Annabeth doesn't understand, as she cannot see it, until Sadie explains the Duat. They attempt to save the dog from the "storm", but it joins with the wolf-and-lion head monster and adds a dog head. Noticing a man on the top of a building, they realize he is both Egyptian and Greek. Sadie tells Annabeth to distract the god while she figures out his name. She remembers his name, shouting "Serapis" ( an Egyptian/Greek hybrid God created by Ptolemy I). She begins to cast spells, but they have little effect. Annabeth and Sadie begin chanting in Greek and Egyptian to confuse him, before taking his staff. Annabeth destroys the dog head on his staff, vanquishing him.[1]
