The Staircase of the London Residence of the Painter is a painting made in 1828 by the Dutch painter Pieter Christoffel Wonder. It is a well-known work from the Centraal Museum in Utrecht, Netherlands.
Speculations regarding the meaning of the painting
In the first half of 2014 an art student of the Open University in the Netherlands did research on the painting and came up with what he believes to be the unknown and hidden meaning of this painting: a story about a political drama from the beginning of the 19th century and an accidental shooting at the Hertford estate of Sudbourne. In this scenario, the man with the hat is the British Prime Minister Frederick John Robinson (Lord Goderich). According to this interpretation, the hare and the dog are Sir Henry Frederick Cooke and King George IV and the painting depicts the resignation of Robinson as Prime Minister in January 1828.
