Fey

A race of long-lived magic users, the Fey are magic users, though levels of ability vary. Fey men study and train for hundreds of years to reach their highest ability level with the branches of magic they have talent in, and to prepare themselves for battle, should they be called on to protect the Fading Lands or their mates. Fey warriors who are masters of all the magics are called Tairen Souls, and have the ability to shapeshift into a Tairen. Fey woman often have the ability to heal, and the more powerful among them are able to force the truth from the unwilling. Fey honor two types of matebonding: e'tanista - chosen bonds of the heart, and shei'tanista - called the truemate bond, it is a mating of souls.

Belliard vel Jelani: Called Bel by his friends, vel Jelani is one of the chattokai (First Blades or Generals) of the Fading Lands' military. He is a powerful Fey, being a fifth-level talent in Air, Water, Fire, and Spirit, but is unable to wield Earth, which is something he feels great shame over.

Tairen

A race flying cat-like creatures, Tairen share a connection with the Fey, particularly those who are Tairen Souls. Tairen live in groups called prides, under the commander of a makai, the dominant female, in caverns in the Feyl mountain range. Tairen mate for life, and hatch out of eggs.
