The Torrents is a 1955 Australian play about an attempt to bring irrigation to a former gold mining town.
In 1955 it was voted best play that year by the Playwrights' Advisory Board, alongside Ray Lawler's Summer of the Seventeenth Doll.[1]
Adaptations
It was adapted for radio by the ABC in 1956.[2]
It was filmed for TV in 1969 as part of the ABC anthology drama series Australian Plays. The production starred Barbara Stephens, Ken Shorter and Alan Hopgood.[3]
It was also adaptd into the musical A Bit o' Petticoat.[4]
